Helmut Lang ‘Alles Gleich Schwer’ Online

Photobucket
Last month I spoke of Helmut Lang’s much awaited online exhibition with Absolut Vodka entitled 'Alles Gleich Schwer'. Well the exhibit is now available to view online. If you're familiar will Lang's fashion design history it is evident in this new exhibit that his design aesthetic holds true between both clothing and art. You can view the show here and read the Press Release below.

Photobucket
"Alles Gleich Schwer" is not a statement or a final answer or question. It is about the consideration and the reflection to evaluate which weight or importance or meaning one as a single person wants to contribute in a changing world to personal, social, emotional, global and ecological or any other issues and arrangements which surrounds one or concerns one. The attribution of importance can be explored in a vertical or horizontal direction.

John Van Den Nieuwenhuizen's Hidden Radio

PhotobucketJohn Van Den Nieuwenhuizen's Hidden Radio has no user interface, yet is completely user interface. Make sense? No? Well instead of having an obvious "control panel", the entire product itself is one. As you lift up the cap on top of the device, the volume of the radio increases proportionally. Likewise, if you push the cap down, the volume decreases until the point at which the device is silent (i.e. switched off). To tune the radio you simply rotate the cap. Brilliant!

on

Visual artists love statistics. A new show in Birmingham UK uses grains of rice to represent the 6.7 billion of us on planet Earth. Stan’s Cafe theatre company presents Of All the People in All the World, a touring exhibition where a whopping 112 tonnes of rice was been used to replicate a whole plethora of statistics. The show is too extensive to write about but luckily the entire thing can be seen in a Flickr set, here.

Peugeot concept vehicles

Photobucket

These vehicles are all entries in the Peugeot Design Contest 2008. Designers were asked to create a concept car for the cities of the future, concentrating on environmental awareness, social harmony, interactive mobility and economic efficiency.

Above is Ying Hui Choo's Peugeot Blade, designed for 'pure driving enjoyment', it actually has a wind turbine attached to the back to charge its electric battery.

Photobucket
Michael Witus Schierup of Denmark says his Peugeot Verde is designed to be able to change its length depending on the environment it is being used in. It has three settings: Highway, Urban and Park. In Highway mode it extends to its full length - about 16ft 5ins. In Urban it compacts itself to about 12ft . Finally, in Park mode it shrinks further to take up as little space as possible

Photobucket
Ke Guo, of China, has designed an aerodynamic 'water drop-shaped vehicle' inspired by Formula One. The PRO has a windscreen which doubles as an opening cockpit and gives 180 degree visibility

Photobucket
Emre Yazici's lightweight 'EGO' runs on just two wheels and is driven using a joystick rather than a steering wheel. Mr Yazici, from Turkey, says the single-passenger electric car needs just a third of the parking space used by a typical modern saloon and can do a u-turn on the spot. The flexible windshield also operates as a door by rolling back into the drum at the back of the car

1940's Rolex Made Panerai Radiomir for Italian Navy

Photobucket
This is a very interesting story I read over at Honkidee. it goes as follows: "The brand Panerai, known now as the archetypal New Yorker watch, was once a lowly producer of boring technical equipment (compasses, depth gauges, and the like) until 1935 when they somehow landed a contract with the Italian navy to develop watches that could be read underwater. Being that Officine Panerai had never produced a time-telling device at all, you can imagine who they turned to....Rolex. Released in 1938 only to the Italian Navy, Officine Panerai produced diving watches called the "Radiomir" with movements, cases, and crowns all made by Rolex." This is a piece of watch history right here.

This is the Santo 75598 KG side-by-side refrigerator from Swedish manufacturer Electrolux AEG. Each section has independent temperature controls, and an alarm alerts you if the temperature rises. As you can see the fridge also includes an integrated section for wine storage. If I made like 10,000 times more money I make now, and owned a home, this fridge would be in it.
