Skin + Bones, London.

PhotobucketSkin + Bones is a collection now open at the Somerset House in London displaying work about the parallel practices in fashion deisgn and architecture. It takes an abstract look at design and architecture, showing them in the same light. The exhibit focuses on contruction of volume, structure and movement, tectonic wrapping and other concepts. It's great how two completely different realms of design can be interpreted in the same light. More photos of the exhibit are available via Wallpaper

Photobucket
OK this is some bona-fide Minority Report shit. Microsoft has recently unveiled it's "Surface". The Microsoft Surface is a multi-touch software/hardware combination which allows you to manipulate digital content by use of motions, hand gestures of physical objects. Look for this thing to be released to restaurants, hospitals, hotels, the military, retail facilities etc. in the near future. I'm scared. Make sure to go HERE and watch all the video. As amazing as the video is I doubt it could possibly do this thing Justice. There are 5 of these things available to the public right now at the following At&T locations.

Ten Thousand Cents.

Photobucket

"Ten Thousand Cents" is a digital artwork that creates a representation of a $100 bill. Using a custom drawing tool, thousands of individuals working in isolation from one another painted a tiny part of the bill without knowledge of the overall task. Workers were paid one cent each via Amazon's Mechanical Turk distributed labor tool. The total labor cost to create the bill, the artwork being created, and the reproductions available for purchase are all $100. The work is presented as a video piece with all 10,000 parts being drawn simultaneously. The project explores the circumstances we live in, a new and uncharted combination of digital labor markets, "crowdsourcing," "virtual economies," and digital reproduction. The who story and a detail of every individual piece can be seen HERE

Pakistan

GQ has an interesting piece detailing the happenings of the increasingly violent Pakistan. The near future of Pakistan seems to encompass an almost certain civil war, some likely assassinations, and lots of blood... not to mention Pakistan serves as the Taliban's new hang out and is supposed home of the ever so lucrative Osama Bin Laden. Government monitored sermons? Pakistan seems to have all the makings of perpetual strife. yet in the midst of Pakistan's turmoil, an election is going on. Devin Friedman documents it and other current events Here.

The Irony of Headache Pills.

Photobucket

The good folks at Help Remedies took into account that when you have a headache, you dont really want to be reading extremely small type, with words you've never even heard. They turned down the volume of headache medicine packaging and in it's place have simply labelled their packaging with excatly what you need. Not only is it easy on the eyes, it's also made of 100% recycled paper. Help also offers this equally minimal box of band-aids. Each only 6 bucks.

BMW Hydrogen 7

Hydrogen 7

This is the fully hyrdrogen powered BMW 7. You may remember a previous version of this which was a bi-fuel vehicle which ran on hydrogen with a gas reserve, this one is purely hydrogen powered. The best part about this vehicle however is that the car's engine actually CLEANS THE ENVIRONMENT. The exhaust has lower amounts of non-methane organic gases and carbon monoxide than regular air. No joke. A 7 series beemer with a. v-12 that cleans environment? With a luxury automobile powerhouse like BMW producing hydrogen fueled cars with V-12s, OPEC better start rolling back prices. Detroit really needs to step their game up.

Free Tibet

So if you've been watching the news lately, you know the olympic torch for the '08 Olympic games in China is making it's way to Beijing. If you know this, you also know that some people are trying incredibly hard to put the flame out/destroy the torch/hate on China. I am a strong advocate of Tibetan freedom so I really respect these people running the risk of certain police tackles and elbow drops in order to make a statement for the people of Tibet.
